Liz Cambage’s Olympic standing unsure after reported ‘altercation’

The Australian Olympic Committee has confirmed that Liz Cambage’s standing for the Tokyo Video games is in jeopardy following stories of a bodily altercation throughout a latest scrimmage towards Nigeria.

AOC chairman Ian Chesterman advised reporters on Friday from Tokyo that Basketball Australia was investigating the alleged incident. He stated that he did not have any extra details about what occurred.

Report: Cambage had ‘bodily altercation, charged verbal trade’

ESPN’s Olgun Uluc reported on Thursday that Cambage was concerned in a “bodily altercation” and a “charged verbal trade” throughout a closed-door scrimmage towards Nigeria in Las Vegas and that Basketball Australia is debating her standing for the Olympics. Each groups are in Nevada this week for Olympic coaching camps and exhibitions towards different nationwide groups getting ready for Tokyo. It isn’t clear who else was concerned within the alleged altercation with Cambage.

Cambage is Australia’s greatest participant

Cambage, a four-time WNBA All-Star, is a two-time Olympian and Australia’s main scorer and greatest participant. The 29-year-old heart averages 14.6 factors and eight.9 rebounds for the Las Vegas Aces this season. She was chosen for Wednesday’s All-Star recreation, however didn’t play as she’s coping with Achilles tendon points forward of the Olympics. 

She was seen in good spirits having fun with the All-Star recreation from the sideline.

Chesterman advised reporters that the Cambage’s standing for Tokyo depends upon the results of an ongoing Basketball Australia investigation.

“Will probably be a matter of them working via with Basketball Australia to see if there’s any ensuing selections that should be made.”

Basketball Australia hasn’t publicly commented on the alleged incident.
